Happiness is a rainy day when the chores are done, three of the kids are at the movies together, the fourth is studying, Tom and I have successfully tackled our first step in remodeling the kitchen, and.......the postman has just delivered a box of books!!! Bliss.
A box of books? Chocolate?
I think I'll take the books over the chocolate.
At least today............

(What does 'successfully tackled our first step in remodeling the kitchen' mean? It means that we replaced the faucet which had developed such a constant torturous drip that the kids were beginning to confess all sorts of weird things in frantic crazed voices AND, we removed the wallpaper. The dripping faucet was silence to me, hard of hearing you know, so I found the kids discomfiture rather sad -- okay, I thought it was funny.)

Did you join a club? May I borrow MORE books from you?
Books; chocolate... ah, the quandary. I indulge in both together often.
Yes, a box of books is bliss. But a box of books AND a box of chocolates... double bliss! Happy reading!
Deanna, no I'm not in a club. I am just another insatiable truth seeker, and I seek in all sorts of places. One of the books in the box is Tom's. You know you are welcome to any book I have that is not by my bedside right now - currently there are only six, so there are still plenty from which to choose.
Deanna AND Pam, you guys are gonna do me in. You are soooo right. Books AND chocolate plus jammies, a comfy nook, and plenty of time.......this is what heaven will be like, right? Oh, and God of course........ :-)

Thomas Merton??? Fantastic! I have a treasured quote from him somewhere (that I always misquote so I won't even try here!) that absolutely touched my heart when I was in the pits.
Enjoy the books.
And another vote. Chocolates and books both!
Congratulations on the kitchen, it's no easy task taking on a job like that. Rewarding but not easy. The timing of the books seemed perfect.
It's morning when I'm writing this post, your post makes be yearn for early morning warmth on the screened in porch, book in one hand, my coffee in the other.
We just got a box of books this week too. Yours look like more fun though.
LOL about your faucet. Our new faucet sat on our counter all last summer. We were too busy working on our garage for L to install it.
We want to paint the kitchen before we tackle the flooring. The big holdup on that plan is we can't agree on a color. Z and I would love a nice sage green. The only green L likes is forest green, and that would be too dark.
Cherie,
I'm trying to choose which books to take on retreat right now - so many I'm desperate to get to. What fun
Cecily: Vote tallied. The 'ayes' have it. Tom bought some chocolate caramels at Trader Joe's, so books AND chocolate it is! Yes, Thomas Merton. I'm attempting to learn more about him, as he fascinates me. I've read Thought in Solitude, and have been challenged by it. (I'm going to head over to your blog in a minute to see how your trip was. Hope it was refreshing!)
Sandy, yes, early morning warmth on the porch, book in hand, hot tea for me. Delicious! Soon, soon. Yes, the timing of the books was exactly right!
tshs......you are going to think I'm lying when I tell you that we are going for a sage green (and cream), too. I KID YOU NOT!! I think we will use forest green decorations to add to the depth, such as I have a white wood-framed mirror I think I'll paint dark green, and hang it on the cream colored bead board. What d'ya think? Great minds!
Liz, how wonderful that you get to go on a retreat! Have a glorious time!
I know the feeling of trying to chose which book to take. You'll figure it out. (The voting here suggests you might want to stick a little bit of chocolate amongst your things, too! :-)
Typo realized - the book is entitled Thoughts in Solitude, not the singular Thought........
Ah, I love it when a box of books comes in the mail. In fact, my latest Amazon order should be arriving any day now. Still, it's a toss up between books and chocolate for me. I'm such an incorrigible chocoholic.
I hear you, WC. For me it depends on the day - and the mood/stress - whether it's books, chocolate, a tub soak, or a leisurely walk.
Chocolate is usually up there in the top two. ;-)
UNBELIEVABLE!!
Great minds...and good taste!
