That is a rhododendron growing from seed? I can't believe it. I can grow everything under the sun, but rhodies and I just don't get along. And because we don't get along, they are one of my favorites. The soil and conditions where you are must be perfect. How exciting!
Sandy, yes we have perfect weather conditions for rhodies. We have parks full of them, most homes have at least one rhodie on the property somewhere, and they get really really big. They are pretty while blooming, I agree. You'll definitely have to come out to the Willamette Valley some spring and see for yourself.
