I haven't even heard of this movie, but might have to check it out. One of the boys at school always tells me he wants to be a soldier. I think he wishes he was like the child soldiers in Africa and I feel very sad for him. He has no idea.
I'm sorry to hear about a boy wanting to be a soldier if it's only to be a soldier. Some things are worth fighting for, but the romance of the military is a sham. War is hell.
Tony, not surprised you've seen it. Yes, only the accents change.
I'll have to show this to Bill! His Irish grandfather died about 8 years ago, and he had some tales to tell. He was a great story teller and shared some interesting experiences in the early 1900s in Ireland. Ultimately, he came to the US in the 1920s and had even more stories about riding the rails looking for work in the 1930s. Someone should write a book.... Love, Gretchen

I loved this movie, but it was heartbreaking.
A very well done, worth-watching movie. I highly recommend it. It tells the history well, doesn't it, WC. And yes, leaves a broken heart.
I just watched the Boy in the Striped Pajamas. I guess I'm on some sort of self-abuse trip today. The sky rained an inch and I cried a bucket.
I just told Tom, "I'm disgusted with people right now."
He asked, "What people?"
I answered, "The murderous ones."
Now I'm going to bed - wonder what sort of dreams I'll have.
Hope you wake up feeling optimistic...

Yes. I am also grieving for the world's children . . .

I want to see both of those movies, but not now. I've shed too many tears lately. I'm desperately searching for something upbeat now.
