The proper attitude toward one's self, with all its flaws, all its folly, all its selfishness and hurting of others, is one of pity, compassion, and understanding. Discipline is a crucial part of the spiritual path, but it arises out of a compassionate desire to prevent future suffering, not a hostile crusade to punish, correct, or improve oneself. It is a remembering, a gentle reminding. ~~ Charles Eisenstein
