Gold at Last

Ever since Tom and I camped at Glacier National Park in Montana under autumn aspen trees where we awakened each morning to heart-shaped silhouettes of golden leaves on our tent top, I've longed for trees that would grace our own land with such treasure.

At last...it's happened.

Not aspen, but birch.

I grin..and grin..and grin.

Simple things.

Simple woman.

Simply fulfilling.

Oh, I miss the riots of color that fall brings - all I see now are shaggy looking plants and lots of pine straw I need to rake up....sigh

I should take a picture of the birch that we discovered on our property this year. Fall colors hit their peak this week. It's rainy and windy this weekend, so I'm sure the trees will soon be bare.

I always laugh when I think of "aspens". The first time we traveled west to the mountains, I couldn't wait for my first glimpse of the legendary "aspens". When I saw one, I was dumbfounded. "Aspens" are....POPLARS! Poplars are pretty much a junk tree around here. They are pretty in the fall though. ;)

The pros and cons of living in different climates, eh, Gardenia. When you go swimming at the beach on Christmas Day I will be the envious one. ;)

Tshs: I'd love to see a photo of your brilliantly colored tree.

Wow. Aspens as junk trees. I wish more junk thrilled me the way of grove of aspens does! ;)

I love birch leaves, too!! We have three 'newish' ones Bill planted in the front yard 4 years ago. This summer we could finally park the car 'in the shade'.
:-) A lawn-care friend just delivered her day's bounty to me for my garden....a lovely chopped mix of someone's lawn trimmings and chopped up birch leaves.
Love, Gretchen

Gretchen, bounty it is!! Talk about simple things - one man's debris is another's gold. ;)

I'm not sure what is in our neighbor's front yard, but it's HUGE and flaming gold with heart-shaped leaves right now. Tomorrow I shall take a closer look and see if I can tell what it is... Autumn is the best, isn't it?

Do go have a peek and enjoy the gold, Pam!

Yep, autumn is the best.

Ok, so I lied. It's neither... the HUGE flaming gold tree is an Idon'tknowwhat, but it has smaller lacy leaves. But right next to it is a smaller, but every bit as stunning birch, little heart-shaped leaves flaming away!
