Smoke from hundreds of lightening-caused California fires swooped north smothering our western Oregon skies and turning our mellow yellow sun into a blazing orange orb hanging in a sepia sky. After a few days of cough-cough, sniffle-sniffle hazy conditions our skies were cleansed at last around sunset yesterday when fresh marine winds blew the the smoke away.
Breathing free this Fourth of July!
Happy Independence Day to my fellow patriotic Americans!
I'm glad the air has cleared! Happy Fourth. Thanks for this nice photo, Cherie.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful orange tint. Perfect sunset capture.
ReplyDeleteHappy Independence Day
Great picture of a beautiful sunset!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend!
Beautiful sky. So sad about the fires. My daughter is surrounded by them down in Monterey.
ReplyDeleteI like the sunset about to go over the hills.
ReplyDeleteI think this is the best Sky Watch Friday yet. The things I have seen are very encouraging and the photography is spot on.
I really admire your photography skills and your critical eye for composition, lighting and texture.

ReplyDeleteWonderful eerie picture! So sad about all those fires!! Have a good weekend. Thanks for stopping by earlier.
ReplyDeleteThe past 3 summers we had severe drought conditions, and numerous wildfires in the region. I can empathize with your smoky-chokey conditions. :(
ReplyDeleteOn the bright side, a smoky skyline makes for great photo opportunities!
It is well known that we Portuguese once sailed the seven seas searching for new lands, wealth and adventures.
ReplyDeleteWe were brave in those days and gave the world new worlds!
Luckily I don’t have to sail the big oceans on a small ship to sea the wonders of our world …
No Sir, I just need to check with Mr. Tom, the finest host there is, for a trip around the world with SKY WATCH TOURS and with a click here, a click there I am quickly in the USA, England, Brazil, Italy, China, Australia, Finland … well, everywhere.
And on each stop I come to see a little marvel of our world under a great sky!
Hope you can come and see my piece of the sky at lenses & visions
I don´t think mine will be a match to yours but even so ...
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and last Monday we finally got a relief from all that smoke in the air... They're having a heck of a time with the fires down in Big Sur -- a real tragedy for that area...
ReplyDeleteGreat catch for SWF! This reminds me the quote... "God and Nature first made us what we are, and then out of our own created genius we make ourselves what we want to be. Follow always that great law. Let the sky and God be our limit and Eternity our measurement".... Happy weekend! Mine's up too hope you can drop by..
ReplyDeleteVery nice shot:)
ReplyDeleteWe drove into the Central Valley of California early last week to similar smoke. Having been busy packing up our son's family for the move and other hectic activities as well, we were taken totally by surprise and I had to log on to some news to know we had clear passage on our particular route. Well, "clear" is relative.
ReplyDeleteGreat sunset!!
ReplyDeleteI hope the fires cause no harm... but it dose make for a great view... thank you so much for joining in again this week.. I'm a bit late visiting but still wanted you to know your post was very much Appreciated..
ReplyDeleteTom
That sure is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSo good to hear that your sky cleared up so you can enjoy the weekend outside! Happy 4th!
ReplyDeleteVery nice. Nature ALWAYS gives us a gift of beauty to offset the bad a bit. Even in the worst disasters, there will be something remarkably beautiful left, even if only a rainbow. We need but look with all our senses open:)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit.
ReplyDeleteGreat silhouette shot.

Thanks, everyone, for the kind remarks and bits of insight and wisdom that came along with them. I've enjoyed reading each and every one.
ReplyDeleteWas that why the moon was orange down here in Florida? Big smoke up from California! We had fires here once too close to the house - its roof on the respiratory system. Happy belated 4th to you too
ReplyDeleteHi Cherie

Regards
tony
