"To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not, rich; to listen to stars and birds, babes and sages, with open heart; to study hard; to think quietly, act frankly, talk gently, await occasions, hurry never; in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common--this is my symphony." ~~~ WILLIAM HENRY CHANNING
that it would be mine too....
ReplyDeleteChanning described my lifestyle quite poetically!
ReplyDeleteI'm good on everything, except the "talk gently" and "hurry never". I'm still a work in progress. ;)
Leisel, yes, me, too.
ReplyDeletetshs: I'm a work in progress, too, with the 'talk gently'. Sometimes yes, and sometimes no.
This is a noble goal you strive for.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
ReplyDeleteI don't know Tom; I think you guys are pretty close to that goal. ;)
ReplyDeletePretty close, yep, pretty darn close....
ReplyDeleteOh my - you only have 'talk gently' and 'hurry never' to go? My life must be a jarring, clashing symphony. My only salvation (aside from, you know, God) is that there must be others who have a more jarring, clashing life than myself. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteAh, don't sigh, Cec, I'm older than you are. It has taken years to get here, and still, I'm not there! AND, I relapse often...too often.
