She's Laughing and Talking Again!

My brother just called and said that Mom sat in the chair for another half hour today - hated it, every single minute and let everyone know she hated it - but it was accomplished.

She's laughing out loud again, and cracking jokes. She's picking on Dad (a good sign, believe it or not) and she's talking in complete sentences a LOT which is more like her. She's complaining more - has the energy to do so. Part of the process, right?

The rehab center staff is doing an excellent job. Mom's doctor has done some fine tuning with the pain meds and other new orders that are helping a lot.

What an experience this is for us all!

Just thought I'd keep those of you praying and otherwise interested informed. A long way to go, but step by weary step we're getting there.

Thanks again!

Thanks, WC., Summer, Sandy C., and Marianne. I'm going down this weekend to see for myself the change. I'm hoping I'll be quite impressed. I do know that even though Mom is being forced to sit in the chair and do arm exercises her attitude is quite crummy. She's happy enough in her bed. I'm waiting for when she is ready to fight and not just be forced. Thanks for praying and for the kind words. It helps.

Will be waiting your observations when you get back. She will fight harder when she has some more of her strength begin to build. Such a fight as she's been through just to live will require some mental adjustments - you may find her going through stages of grief - denial, anger, bargaining, etc., etc. as she makes her way back out of a near-death experience.

Oh Cherie, I'm so happy for you. This rollercoaster ride may be coming to a stop!

Gardenia: Timely of you to state the stages because I'm seeing them just as you describe. I think the mental strain was indeed much more than we knew. While Mom seems to be coming back to us still we are seeing new and odd behavior and irrational thinking. On top of that, Dad is becoming harder and harder to help. But we shall persevere with compassion and patience. Thanks for the insight. It really helps me get a handle on things.

Sandy, your encouragement helps a lot. Roller coaster still going up and down but we are hanging on.

I'm glad to read the latest, way behind on everyone's blog as I am. You're in my thoughts still, Cherie. May the next trip and visit to your mom go well.

Thanks, Deanna. I'll have more to say on the subject of Mom and Dad after my visit. Strange stuff going on...
