Sugar Overdose, Anyone?

"Ahoy Mateys! Set Sail with a Cap'n Crunch Milkshake!!"
Yes, it really said that on the reader board of a local fast food restaurant.

May as well just shoot ourselves in the head.

I don't think I've ever even eaten Captain Crunch au naturel. I certainly wouldn't think a cereal would be any good in a milkshake.

Wow. I feel sick just thinking about it. Really, shooting ourselves in the head would be less painful and less expensive than the erosion of health our generation faces.

This was one of my favorite cereals as a kid and one reason I didn't buy sugared cereal for my kids. to this day, one of my favorite things to eat is sugared cereal. better than dessert.

The worst thing I ever made was Cap'n Crunch bars. You make them like Rice Krispie bars. They were so sickeningly sweet that we ended up throwing them out. :(

WC - I know. Cereal in a milkshake. Maybe we should just pour ice cream on our breakfast cereals, save the trip to the fast food place. :(

M.E. - "Really, shooting ourselves in the head would be less painful and less expensive than the erosion of health our generation faces." This is exactly what I was thinking! Great minds. The thought of a Cap'n Crunch milkshake still makes my mouth turn down and my stomach flip-flop. Yuk...

Patti - Confession: it was a happy Saturday when Mom surprised us with the Cap'n all those years ago! But I always felt weird afterwards. Having a family full of kids, the upside was that I only managed to snag one bowl for myself. I can't believe how much we ate Alpha-Bits, Frosted Flakes, Fruit Loops, Cocoa Puffs - no wonder we were starving for lunch just an hour later! Anyway, I have the same reaction as a mom as you do - none of that for my kids - well, not a lot. I went through my 'Saturday Surprise' phase. (Joe thinks Cap'n Crunch with the peanut butter flavor would make a tasty milkshake. My work here is not done...urgh...) Tom's favorite health food? Brown rice aka Cocoa Krispies!! He's a nut.

Tshs: Nice try with the Capt'n Crunch Treats, but oh man, they must have been eye-sweatingly sweet.

YUKKO!:(

Z found the recipe in a magazine and insisted we make the bars, but he acknowledged his mistake when he ate them.

Something that IS good is ice cream or yogurt on oatmeal!

Yukko is right, Mike! Ha!

Tshs: So, Z is learning by trial and error. Not a bad thing at all. :) I like a little half and half on my oatmeal - it's like dessert. Blueberries, too.

Tim and I were choosing a meal at that very dining establishment, when we saw the sign for Cap'n Crunch shakes, and we both shuddered. Not that we didn't go ahead and order our chocolate malts... But they're a rare treat, and lower on the sugar shock scale, I'd guess.

Shudder is right, Deanna. Hope you enjoyed your rare and wonderful chocolate malts! (Ah, I'm sure ya did. :)

This one is lost on me, since we don't have Cap'n Crunch in Australia! But we do have a host of other enticing, sugary cereals that I avoid like the plague!

What, you mean you don't grow Cap'n Crunch in your garden, Cecily??

Cap'n Crunch is a sickeningly sweet corn (I think) cereal packed with loads of sugar. It's crunchy, hence the name, but does get soggy once in the bowl for awhile, so it seems like it would be pretty lousy in a milkshake. You're smart to avoid it like the plague.
